Novak Djokovic has retired from the Italian Open in Rome, which will start next week.
The World No 5 is on a five -game lost streak with his last defeat at the Madrid Open on Saturday when he lost to the World at 44 Matteo Arnaldi, leaving the Serbian still hunting his first victory of the clay mud season.
Last year, Djokovic had a disappointing campaign at Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, winning only one game before falling into the tournament.
