Former Ex-Elderly Shaila-Ann Rao gave a surprise return to the Formula 1 governing body to FIA just over two years after leaving.
Rao, that in 2022 left his position as interim secretary general after only six months On paper, he was appointed advisor to the president of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
Rao is a lawyer who before joining the FIA the first time was a general lawyer of the Formula 1 team of Mercedes and special adviser of his boss Toto Wolff.
Rao returns to the FIA while Ben Sulayem is preparing to lead a second term in the December FIA presidential election.
The Emirate contacted Rao himself about the return to the organization.
Rao’s reunion also reaches the thread of a series of controversy that affects Ben Sulayem during the three years of his presidency.
The most recent of these was the Renunciation of the Vice President of the Sport Robert Reid This month, expressing concerns about the Government’s management in the FIA under the leadership of Ben Sulayem.
On the same day, former executive director Natalie Robyn broke the silence he had kept since he was asked to leave the organization last summer after just 18 months in his role.

Rao will start working on May 1st. His role will be as a consultant and will provide “Tips to the President of the FIA on a series of issues, including regulatory and commercial issues related to the seven FIA World Championships,” a FIA statement said.
In the statement, Ben Sulayem said: “Shaila-Ann Rao has an exceptional record in the Global Motorsport and will be a great asset for me and my team while we continue to improve the regulatory and commercial paintings in all FIA World Championships, benefiting our drivers, teams and members of the FIA.
“It will also advise me on matters related to all the FIA World Championship promoters.”
Rao said: “I look forward to advising the president of the FIA in the FIA World Championships and taking advantage of the significant advances that have already been made during his presidential mandate by strengthening the regulatory and commercial paintings of the championships.
“FIA has a unique place in global sport and I am excited to support the FIA at this time and help the president of the FIA offer an even stronger future for automatic sport.”
The BBC Sport has requested a greater explanation of the circumstances surrounding Rao’s hiring, but FIA has not yet responded.
Rao was not available for comments.
