American Airlines is growing rapidly in Chicago.
The next winter, Texas -based carrier, will add seven new routes and increase flights to another 10 from O’Hare’s International Airport in Chicago (ODD).
At first glance, this move is the most native escalation in the updated battle with United Airlines for the upper hand in the windy town.
The new O’Hare American routes are:
- Akron-Caton Airport (CAK) in Ohio or twice a day starting on October 6th
- Curaçao International Airport (Cur) – Saturday, starting from December 6th
- Guatemala City La Aurora International Airport (GUA) – Three Week flights starting on November 6th
- Roanoke-Blacksburg (ROA) Regional Airport in Virginia-Every Day, Starting August 6
- Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in San Jose, Costa Rica – Every day, starting from November 2 (last flying in 2022)
- Henry E. Rollsen Airport on StX) – Saturday, starting from December 6th
- Princess Juliana International Airport of St. Maarten – Saturday, starting on November 8th
Tickets for the new routes are on sale on May 5.
These new destinations for American from Chicago – along with additional frequencies on another 10 routes – they come as American and United they face a renewed battle for Chicago.
The American slowly restored his O’Hare hub after the coronavirus pandemic, instead focused on his bases in the solar belt, including the Charlotte-Draglas International Airport (CLT) and the Dallas-Form International Airport (DFW).

United, which is based in Chicago, doubled on its hub O’Hare. The airline operates at 19% fewer flights, but the seats are approximately equal in 2024 compared to 2019, according to Cirium -which means it flew on its routes, in general, with larger aircraft.

American places in O’Hare will increase by 21% in June, July and August compared to last year, at the Cirium, this includes a New Nonstop to Naples International Airport (NAP) in Italy, which begins on May 6.
Of the seven new routes that come this winter, the American will compete with United in five: Akron, Guatemala City, Roanok, San Jose and St. Maarten, Cirium Schowes Show.
American will be the only airline to offer nonstopi between Chicago and Curacao and St. Croas.
The 10 existing routes that the American will add additional flights to include O’Hare to the ARABA Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA), the Cancun International Airport, the Los Cabos International Airport and the Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). He competes with United on all 10 routes.
The US claims that this will be the largest airline from Chicago to the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico with this last expansion.
