Criminal allegations will not be filed against a professional ice hockey player arrested by suspicion of homicide following the death of Adam Johnson.
The Nottingham Panthers player died after suffering a neck injury of a skate during a collision with Matt Petrave by Sheffield Steelers on October 28th.
The Crown Prosecutor’s Office said he worked with South Yorkshire police to determine if any criminal charge should be taken.
“We conclude that there is no realistic perspective of conviction for any crime and so there will be no prosecution,” said Michael Quinn, an deputy prosecutor of the Crown.
Quinn added: “This was a shocking and deeply annoying incident.
“CPS and South Yorkshire police have worked closely to determine if any criminal charges should be brought against other ice hockey player.”
He said the police investigation had been “exhaustive” and that the CP conducted a “complete review of all tests.”
The death of Johnson, who was from Minnesota in the United States, led to a grief over the world.
Johnson had previously played in the National Hockey League of North America (NHL), 13 times for Pittsburgh penguins.
He went to the Swedish league of Hockey (SHL) for the 2020-21 season, before the spells with Ontario’s reign and Lehigh Valley ghosts in the American Hockey League.
Johnson played at Augsburger Panther in Germany before changing Nottingham’s panties in August.
